In this installment we explore the salvation of a thief who was hung beside the Christ on Scull Rock.  John unpacks several layers including the fact that this criminal was saved by no meritorious action of his own but simply by reaching out to Jesus.  Also, we uncover the power of what was happening on that scull shaped hill outside Jerusalem.  Jesus Himself was there for thievery.  But in this case it was the hearts of rebellious men and women He had come to steal.

Often, when the faith train leaves the track, at the core is this one issue: “why me?”  We live in a culture that has made an art of catering to the individual.  As a result, we grow to expect that.  We expect to be made much of at the grocery store, our car dealer, and our church.  Religion has so gotten into this mode of doing things that mega churches are built on the idea that God’s people get a pass on difficulty and suffering.  So it is a little off-putting and surprising to some of us when at the...

John discusses a fundamental flaw in the thinking of many religious people.  The flaw, simply stated, is the mindset that we are the point; that the universe revolves around us (or should).  The cross of Jesus stands in stark contrast to that idea.  It says that each of us have to extract self from the equation in order for life to really work.
